Welcome to the Centre for South Asian Studies, (CSAS) University of the Punjab, Lahore. CSAS is one of the prominent Centers of strong performance and high ambition in research, as it has continued to make excellent progress towards its goals. The Centre has a Specialized Library containing over 19,000 books, reports, monographs, journals and newspapers. The collection covers the subjects of Economics, Political Science, Geography, Sociology, History and Religions of South Asia. It also has a separate section on Afghanistan, Iran and other SAARC countries. The Library regularly receives English dailies from South Asian countries.

LAHORE: (Thursday, April 16, 2015): Punjab University Centre for South Asian Studies (CSAS) in collaboration with Department of Political Science organized a seminar on “The Complexity of Yemen Crisis” at seminar hall of CSAS. Former Ambassador Mazhar Qayyum, Director CSAS Prof Dr Umbreen Javaid, faculty members and MPhil/PhD scholars of both the departments were present on the occasion. Mr Mazhar Qayyum, while analyzing the complexity of Yemen crisis described the past history of the crisis that initiated in early 1960’s. He said that since then regional factors, foreign elements and United States’ ambitions had participated to give this crisis such a magnitude. He said that there were no real threat to Saudi territory, however, Pakistani forces those were already there and providing all kinds of training to the Saudi Forces would extend every kind of help to them if there arisen a threat to Saudi territory. He said Pakistani Forces will not boot in Yemen to launch an attack. He stressed that we must have to keep Iranian apprehensions in our mind because she was our close neighbor and this position cannot be changed.

JournalSouth Asian Studies is being published bi-annually by the Centre for South Asian Studies, University of the Punjab, Lahore since 1984. It seek s to inform the readers about the core issues of South Asian region in particular, ra nging from economy, politics and culture to security and conflict matters. This journal contains 17 research articles on different contemporary issues pertaining to South Asia and world at large. Which will hopefully enlighten the readers. The panel for peer reviewers keeps on changing according to the subject of the articles submitted. Scholars are invited to contribute on any topic related to South Asia and world at large.
